On November 12, 2020, RIAC took part in the fourth online discussion on the challenges and prospects of relations between Russia and NATO, initiated by the European Leadership Network (ELN). Experts from Russia and the EU, former politicians and diplomats took part in the discussion. Russia was represented by Alexei Gromyko, Director of RAS Institute of Europe, RIAC Member; Andrey Kortunov, RIAC General Director; Sergey Rogov, Academic Director of RAS Institute for the U.S. and Canadian Studies (ISKRAN), RIAC Member; and Igor Istomin, Associate Professor, Department of Applied International Political Analysis, Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO University).

This discussion was organized within ELN "Go Big" project, RIAC being a partner. The project was launched during the COVID-19 pandemic, when states, in addition to immediate healthcare challenges, face serious economic and political difficulties with implications for global security. According to experts, at this time, in order to overcome the challenges, it is necessary to coordinate efforts at all levels, including Track II. Within the framework of the project, three working groups on certain matters have been established. The groups consist of representatives of the older, middle age and younger generations. The groups are elaborating ideas and proposals to overcome the current challenges. The project participants consider it necessary to ensure conditions for reducing security challenges and strengthening international cooperation in the fight against the pandemic and its consequences. During the fourth meeting of the working group, the discussion focused on the possibilities and mechanisms for restoring the dialog between Russia and NATO in the context of the upcoming change of power in Washington.
