On June 18, 2024, Dostoevsky Library hosted the Russian International Affairs Counsil (RIAC) Urban Breakfast “European Dream 2024”. Experts discussed both the results of the latest European Parliament elections on June 6–9 and their importance for the further development of the European Union and its positioning in the international arena.
In particular, the speakers touched upon such issues as changes of the party landscape in the European Union and individual Member States, prospects of the European Green Deal as one of the key dimensions of the EU development under the current European Commission. The future of the European Union's “strategic autonomy” and the key directions of European international activities were also discussed during the breakfast. The participants made an attempt to reflect on what the “European dream” means today, and what limitations prevent it from coming true, e.g. the slowdown of the European integration and the related internal challenges, as well as the decline in the EU actorness in international affairs.
