On March 25, 2025, an expert discussion “Russian-Israeli relations and regional context” was held. Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) in cooperation with Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IOS RAS) organized the meeting. The aim of the event was to discuss the current state and prospects for the development of cooperation between Russia and Israel in the context of regional dynamics. The welcome remarks were delivered by Igor Ivanov, RIAC President; Vasily Kuznetsov, Deputy Director for Science of the IOS RAS, RIAC Member; Simona Galperin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel to Russia.

During the discussion, participants discussed regional trends in the Middle East, the transformation of Russian and Israeli foreign policies in changing conditions, as well as the dynamics of Russian-Israeli relations at the current stage. The substantive basis of the conference was monography “Normalization of Soviet-Israeli relations. 1986-1991”. The book was presented by its author Victor Smirnov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation, Head of the Department of Israel and Jewish Communities of the IOS RAS.

The conference was also attended by: Svetlana Gavrilova, RIAC Director of Programs; Victor Simakov, Head of the Israel Division of the Department for the Middle East and North Africa of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Andrey Kortunov, RIAC member; Irina Zvyagelskaya, Head of Center for the Middle East Studies of the IMEMO RAS, RIAC Member; Lyudmila Samarskaya, Research Fellow at the Center for Middle East Studies of the IMEMO RAS; Leading Researchers of the Department of Israel and Jewish Communities Tatiana Karasova and Tatiana Nosenko; Researchers at the Department of Israel and the Jewish Communities of the IOS RAS Irina Masyukova, Anna Novikova and Luisa Khlebnikova; Vladimir Sazhin, Senior Researcher at the Center for Middle East Studies of the IOS RAS; Stanislav Lazovsky, Junior Researcher of the Center for the Middle East Studies of IMEMO RAS; Danila Golubev, Researcher at the Department of Israel and Jewish Communities Studies of the IOS RAS; Igor Subbotin, Commentator for International Affairs under the Editor-in-Chief of Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
