On April 24–25, 2019, in Beirut, RIAC representatives took part in the event organized by Konrad Adenauer Foundation and Omran Center for Strategic Studies on the Syrian restoration.
The Konrad Adenauer Foundation seminar on Actors, Policies, and Obstacles to Economic Recovery in Syria consisted of six sessions and gathered about thirty experts and officials from European, Middle Eastern, and American research centers, NGOs, EU and the UN agencies in Lebanon. The key topics included the general framework of the economic course of recovery in Syria, the government’s ability to carry out the recovery, the key Syrian actors in the process, the European outlook, and the Turkish course on economic recovery in Syria with a focus on Afrin and the «Euphrates Shield» areas.
Alexander Aksenyonok, RIAC Vice President, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia, presented the Russian view on the challenges of economic recovery in Syria. Some ideas were expressed by Ruslan Mamedov, RIAC Program Assistant, and Yuri Barmin, RIAC Expert, who also moderated one of the sessions.
