On July 25, 2022, the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) held a closed seminar “The U.S. Factor in the Middle East in the New Conditions”. The goal of the meeting was to discuss key regional trends in the Middle East, taking into account the U.S. factor. The seminar was attended by the leading Russian experts on the Middle East, and on the USA.
The first session was devoted to the results of the Middle East tour of U.S. President Joe Biden, the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict on the Middle East configuration, the prospects for the creation of “Arab NATO”, and the energy policy of the Middle East countries in the new conditions. During the second session, the participants discussed the current U.S.-Israel relations, Israel's internal and external problems in the context of election preparation, Iran's regional policy, and the prospects for resuming the JCPOA.
