On October 10–13, 2021, the 8th International Meeting of Intellectuals took place in Pyatigorsk. The conference was organized by the International Institute of the Development of Science Cooperation jointly with Pyatigorsk State University. The meeting brought together more than 70 participants from Russia, the USA, Turkey, Sweden, Austria, and some other countries. Among participants of the conference were former Foreign Minister of Turkey Yaşar Yakış, Deputy Director for Science at the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Velikhan Mirzekhanov, and Professor at the MGIMO University Elena Ponomareva. Rector of Pyatigorsk State University Alexander Gorbunov addressed the participants with welcoming remarks.

The conference was devoted to global and regional issues, as well as the risks and vulnerabilities of the modern world. Special attention was given to matters such as the crisis of international law, the formation of a multipolar world system, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on politics and the economy. The participants of the conference also touched demographic, environmental, climatic, economic, and educational issues. In the framework of the regional issues, there was a discussion on China, the Middle East, Central Asia, and the situation in Afghanistan.
