On March 1, 2017, Madrid hosted an international roundtable devoted to the relations between Russia and the West.
The event was organised by the Elcano Royal Institute, one of the leading Spanish "think-tanks" engaged in international relations' analysis. According to the Institute's authorities, Russian studies is a new area of its activity. The Institute is planning to further develop research of Russia and Russia's foreign policy.

Spanish experts Emilio Lamo de Espinosa, Elcano President, Charles Powel, Elcano director, and Mira Milosevich-Juaristi, Elcano leading research fellow, took part in the event.
Ignacio Ibanez, the newly appointed Ambassador of Spain to Russia, and Marcelino Oreja, former Minister of foreign affairs of Spain, also attended the event. The participants also included foreign diplomatic missions' representatives, journalists and universities' employees.
Jeffrey Mankoff, Deputy Director of Russia Studies at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (USA), Paul Isbell, Professor at John Hopkins University (USA), John Lough, Chatham House expert (Great Britain), and Ulrich Speck, Transatlantic Academy leading research fellow, spoke at the roundtable.
RIAC was represented by Ivan Timofeev, RIAC Director of Programs, and Vladislav Inozemtsev, RIAC member. Yury Korchagin, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Spain, participated in the opening of the event.
