Graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Russian Academy of Sciences Full Member. Doctor of Sciences (Politics), professor.

Career at MGIMO: senior lecturer, assistant professor at the Faculty of History and Culture of Asia and Africa; Dean responsible for foreign students, Vice-Rector responsible for external relations; First Vice-Rector.

Worked as a diplomat in the DPRK and the USA (Washington).

Since 1992, Rector of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations of the RF MFA.

Chairman of the United Nations Association of Russia; President of the Russian International Studies Association; member of the Academic Council of the Security Council of the Russian Federation; Chairman of the Curricula Development Association of Russian Schools of International Relations; member of the expert commission of the Russian Council of School Olympiads on social theory.

Editor-in-Chief of the Vestnik MGIMO-University journal.

Author of academic papers, co-author and editor-in-chief of many books and textbooks.

Academic focus: international relations, history of Korea and Russian foreign policy.

Recipient of state awards from Russia and foreign countries.
