“Nuclear Weapons and International Security in the 21st Century” is an event jointly organized by the Russian International Affairs Council and Global Zero and will be hosted by the Moscow State Institution of International Relations (MGIMO).

MOSCOW, NOVEMBER 8, 2012. In a groundbreaking conference designed to address the immediate implications of the US elections results senior Russian officials will join former international civil and military leaders to discuss key global security issues.
“Nuclear Weapons and International Security in the 21st Century” is an event jointly organized by the Russian International Affairs Council and Global Zero and will be hosted by the Moscow State Institution of International Relations (MGIMO).
Participants in the conference will include leading Russian experts on international security and nuclear arms control, senior Russian government officials, leading institutes on Russian public affairs and representatives of the international media, as well as former civil and military leaders and experts representing all of the nuclear powers. Global Zero, the international initiative dedicated to the complete elimination of all nuclear weapons and led by 300 global leaders, will be represented by Ambassador Richard Burt, the US chair of Global Zero and chief negotiator of the original START treaty between Russia and the US. “This is a unique and timely meeting of global experts in international security, a genuine opportunity to determine a new framework for nuclear weapons control and reductions – for the United States and Russia, as well as for the other nuclear powers – that should begin in 2013,” says Ambassador Burt.
The conference will address the principles of future US-Russian strategic security cooperation following the US elections, will include presentations of key US and Russian reports on scenarios for nuclear arms reductions and address the issues of multilateral disarmament, nuclear proliferation and the threat of nuclear terrorism.
