On April 16, 2021, Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) together with CREON Group held a seminar on the topic "Prospects for cooperation between Russia and the EU in the ecology sphere".
The discussion focused on the challenges and prospects of relations between Russia and the European Union in the field of ecology and how the European Border Carbon Mechanism (CBAM) might affect the European and Russian economies.
The seminar participants included diplomats, experts and researchers from academic institutions, as well as business representatives. Opening remarks were made by Igor Ivanov, RIAC President. The official positions of Russia and the EU on the ecological track were presented by Artem Bulatov, Deputy Director of the Department of European Cooperation of the Russian Foreign Ministry, and Laurent Bardon, Head of the Trade and Economic Section at the EU Delegation to Russia.

Russian expert community was represented by Igor Makarov, PhD in Economics, Head of the Department of World Economy, Head of the Laboratory for Economics of Climate Change at Higher School of Economics, RIAC expert; Elena Maslova, PhD in Political Science, Senior Research Fellow at the MGIMO Center for European Studies, Senior Research Fellow at IMI MGIMO, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences, RIAC Expert; and Natalya Piskulova, Doctor of Economics, Professor of the Department of International Economic Relations and Foreign Economic Relations at MGIMO University, RIAC Expert.
Florian Willershausen, Member of the Management Board, CREON Group; Anastasiia Lavrenteva, Managing Director at Gazprombank; Alexey Spirin, Director of the Environmental and Climate Risk Management Department of En+ Group; and Ernesto Ferlenghi, Chairman of the Energy Committee, Chair of the Green Initiative Steering Committee of the Association of European Businesses; spoke about the vision of the business community on the prospects and challenges of interaction between Russia and the EU in the ecology sphere, green investments, and sustainable development.
