On November 1, the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) together with the Synergy Foundation (Bangalore, India) held a round table “Russia and India: Cooperation in Food Security”. The event was attended by government agencies, business and academia from both countries.

Ivan Timofeev, RIAC Director General, Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Academic Director, and Ranjan Mathai, former Indian Foreign Minister delivered welcoming remarks.

The speakers highlighted the progress of Russian-Indian trade in agriculture and the prospects for increased trade turnover in this field. The experts named high administrative barriers and customs duties, as well as long shipping as the most pressing challenges of Russian—Indian agricultural cooperation.

The round table was attended by Lydia Kulik, Head of India Studies at Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO, Senior Research Fellow at the RAS Institute of Oriental Studies; Tobby Simon, President of the Synergia Foundation; Julia Melnikova, RIAC Program Manager; Timur Vekilov, Director of the Russian Export Center Office in India; Ashok Dalwai, Former Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture of India; Shobhan Patnayak, former Minister of Agriculture of India; Amir Galyautdinov, Head of the Commercial Department at Avgust-Agro Management Company; Konstantin Malashenkov, Advisor on Agriculture at the Russian Embassy in India; R G Rajan, Independent Director at KRIBHCO Fertilizers Limited and JNK India; GAV Reddy, Chief Strategic Officer of Synergia Foundation; Ganesh Sudararaman, Division Chief Executive Officer of ITC Agri Business.

The discussion was moderated by Lydia Kulik, Head of India Studies at Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO; Senior Research Fellow at the RAS Institute of Oriental Studies.
