On June 19, 2014, Russian International Affairs Council held the roundtable "Russia-Iran Relations in the Context of Current Global and Regional Problems" timed to the visit of Dr. Hadi Suleimanpur, Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran at Head of International Training and Research Center at Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Russian side was represented by the Foreign Ministry, Russia-Iran Business Council, RAS Institute for Oriental Studies, MGIMO-University, Diplomatic Academy, PIR-Center and other think tanks, as well as business community.

In his address to the audience, Dr. Suleimnapur offered a detailed analysis of key trends in Russia-Iran relations and regional problems that require cooperative participation of Moscow and Tehran, i.e. extremism and radicalism in the Middle East, Afghanistan and Iraq, the Caspian, Afghan drug trafficking, nuclear-free zone in the Middle East, and insufficient institutionalization of regional relationships.
Having also covered opportunities for Russia-Iran cooperation for handling Caucasian conflicts and possible interaction of Russia, Iran, India and China in Central Asia, the participants finalized the debate by pledging to launch a research on future interplay between Moscow and Tehran by RIAC and International Training and Research Center.
