On December 26, 2013 the Russian International Affairs Council, "Creative diplomacy" and the Youth section of the Association for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation held the IV annual Debates of young experts in memory of S. Kortunov.
RIAC Director General Andrey Kortunov made the opening speech. RIAC Program Director Ivan Timofeev moderated the discussion.
During the debates young experts in the field of international relations had an opportunity to discuss some of the most important challenges Russia is facing today:
1) Do Russia and Ukraine need each other?
2) Is the image of Russia abroad so important for the country?
3) Does the Eurasian Union need new members?
Distinguished experts on international relations also participated in the debates. In particular, senior research fellow, head of the military and political analysis section at the Center for International Security at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations Sergey Oznobishchev shared his views about the future of the Russian-Ukrainian relations. He underlined that today Kiev has already chosen the European direction, and this very fact is likely to serve as a foundation for the next presidential campaign.
During the debates it was decided not to name a winner since both teams (the one of the "Creative diplomacy" and the one representing the Youth section of the Association for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation) presented solid arguments to support their positions.
