On November 6, 2015, RIAC Deputy Program Director Timur Makhmutov took part in roundtable "The EU and Russia: a Dialogue in Changed Security Environment" on the margins of the Riga Conference organized by the Latvian Institute of International Affairs. In his report on the new security architecture in Eurasia, Dr. Makhmutov stressed the need for quality assessment of the current Russia-EU relationship, as well as for examination of the sides' perception of their niche, role and strategy in international affairs and ties with neighbor countries. The European stance was presented by Director of the European Leadership Network Ian Kearns, who spoke on the significance of relations with Russia for strengthening security and stability in Europe.

Part two of the roundtable was devoted to Russia-EU cooperation in the Baltic, with reports made by Sector Head at RAS Situational Analysis Center Sergey Utkin and Swedbank Chief Economist Mārtiņš Kazāks, who covered economic growth of Russia and Latvia, prospects for bilateral cooperation and joint business projects.
The event gathered experts from Azerbaijan, Great Britain, Germany, Latvia, Poland, Sweden and Estonia, who outlined issues for further debate, among them interaction in energy and ecology, future transportation corridors between Russia and Europe across the Baltic, and Russian-European cooperation to enhance regional security.
