On June 18–19, 2018, London hosted a Greater Europe project working group meeting on the current state and prospects of relations between Russia and NATO ahead of the forthcoming summit of the North Atlantic Alliance in Brussels on July 11–12.
The working group consists of 25 current and former politicians, military, diplomats, including former foreign and defense ministers of several European countries. Institutional partners in this project are the European Leadership Network for Multilateral Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (ELN), the Turkish Global Relations Forum (GRF), the Italian Institute of International Affairs (Istituto Affari Internazionali - IAI), and the Russian International Affairs Council.
At the meeting RIAC was represented by Igor Ivanov, RIAC President, Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Director General, and Alexey Gromyko, RIAC Member, Director of the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The issues of restoring the lines of political and military communications between Russia and NATO, the relevance of the Russia-NATO Founding Act of 1997, the possible convergent interests of the parties in regional conflict situations, as well as the mechanisms for building confidence and increasing predictability in the relations between Moscow and Brussels were discussed in the course of the meeting.
