On November 12, 2018, Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) in
partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Austria in Russia and the
Delegation of the European Union to Russia held a seminar on “Relations between
Russia and the EU in the Context of Austrian Presidency of the Council of the
European Union”.
On November 12, 2018, Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Austria in Russia and the Delegation of the European Union to Russia held a seminar on “Relations between Russia and the EU in the Context of Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union”. The seminar discussed the priorities for the EU policy during the Austrian presidency; and infrastructure connectivity issues in Eurasia.
Igor Ivanov, RIAC President, made opening remarks. The speakers in the first session included: Alexander Grushko, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia; Markus Ederer, Ambassador of the European Union to the Russian Federation; Johannes Aigner, Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to the Russian Federation. The session was moderated by Armen Oganesyan, Editor-in-Chief of "International Affairs" journal, RIAC Member.
The speakers of the second session were: Sergey Afontsev, Head of Department at IMEMO RAS, MGIMO Professor, RIAC Member; Gohar Barsegyan, Deputy Director of the Integration Development Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC); and Markus Ozegovich, CEO of Vokswagen Group Rus. The session was moderated by Ivan Timofeev, RIAC Director of Programs.
The meeting was attended by ambassadors of the European Union states in Russia, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Eurasian Economic Commission, experts from MGIMO of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, IMEMO RAS, RAS Institute of Europe.
Russian International Affairs Council regularly holds seminars with the participation of representatives of embassy and expert community of the country presiding at the EU Council. From 2015 to 2017 seminars were held in cooperation with the embassies of Latvia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Slovakia, and Estonia.
