On May 24, 2021, Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) and Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center, Azerbaijan) held a closed meeting on the prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia: security and logistics in the South Caucasus.
The event was attended by Russian and Azerbaijani experts specializing in logistics and security issues in the South Caucasus. The discussion focused on a number of issues of regional cooperation between Moscow and Baku, which not only contribute to the economic development of Russia and Azerbaijan, but also resolve some security issues in the South Caucasus. In particular, during the event, experts from Russia and Azerbaijan discussed the prospects for the construction of transport corridors running through the territories of Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Iran and Turkey, that could become new economic arteries for the region.
In addition, the experts came to the conclusion that the implementation of joint logistics projects in the region can become the basis for the rapprochement of states in the South Caucasus and building an atmosphere of mutual trust in a relatively unstable region. The experts also stressed the importance of strengthening humanitarian ties between Russia and Azerbaijan, especially in the field of education.
