Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Director General, Alexey Maslov, Acting Director of the Institute of Far Eastern Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IFES RAS), RIAC Member, and Ivan Timofeev, RIAC Director of Programs, spoke during the main session. Their reports focused on the role of Russia — China cooperation in the evolving world order and both states’ relations with the U.S., as well as on various aspects of the bilateral ties.
At a lively Q&A session, the experts discussed opportunities and risks for Moscow and Beijing arising from the current state of affairs in the international relations and stressed the importance of further development of trade, economic and educational cooperation. They also highlighted the need to facilitate convergence of positions over strategic issues. According to the participants, despite significant common experience that the two countries have gained since 2001, when the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation was signed, they need to continue to harmonize their agendas to stand tall against common threats.
The discussion collected distinguished experts of the field.
