On February 28 – March 1, 2019, Russian International Affairs Council together with the Delegation of the European Union to the Russian Federation held a seminar “Transition to Digitalization and Connectivity: Prospects for Economic Cooperation between Russia and the EU in the Conditions of Sanctions”.
The seminar discussed the prospects for economic cooperation between Russia and the EU, the transition to digitalization, the concept of "connectivity".
On February 28 – March 1, 2019, Russian International Affairs Council together with the Delegation of the European Union to the Russian Federation held a seminar “Transition to Digitalization and Connectivity: Prospects for Economic Cooperation between Russia and the EU in the Conditions of Sanctions”.
The seminar discussed the prospects for economic cooperation between Russia and the EU, the transition to digitalization, the concept of "connectivity".
The seminar was attended by experts from Russia and the EU, permanent members of the group, as well as invited experts on relevant topics. Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Director General; Markus Ederer, Ambassador of the European Union to the Russian Federation; Aleska Simkic, Deputy Head of Delegation; made speeches at the opening of the seminar. Evgeny Vinokurov, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Chief Economist of the Project Block of the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization at Eurasian Development Bank, RIAC Member; and Jean-Arthur Regibeau, Belgian Ambassador to Russia; made speeches at the plenary session of the seminar. Ivan Timofeev, RIAC Director of Programs, Natalia Vyakhireva, RIAC Program Manager, represented RIAC at the event.
The seminar was held in the framework of the initiative to build the EU-Russia expert network, aimed at strengthening long-term cooperation between Russia and the EU.
Several roundtables were held on various aspects of Russia-EU relations within the project in 2017–2018. The project is scheduled until autumn 2020. The next network meeting is scheduled for July 2019 in the Hague.
An Urban Breakfast was also held at the Dostoevsky library as part of the two-day seminar focusing on “Brexit — a reminder of what the EU really is about”. Nikolay Kaveshnikov, MGIMO University; Oksana Antonenko, Control Risks, London; and Sergey Kulik, Institute of Contemporary Development, Moscow, spoke about the consequences of Brexit for the UK, the EU, and other countries, including Russia. The discussion was moderated by Sergey Utkin, RAS IMEMO.
