On November 22–23, in Vienna, Russian International Affairs Council, together with the EU Delegation to Russia and the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, held a seminar “Russia and the EU in the Western Balkans: Area of Cooperation or Confrontation?”.
The issues of cooperation between Russia and the EU in the Western Balkans were discussed, as well as the future of this region.
The seminar was attended by experts from Russia and the EU, permanent members of the group, as well as the invited experts on relevant topics. RIAC was represented by Alexander Aksenyonok, RIAC Vice-President, Ivan Timofeev, RIAC Director of Programs, Natalia Vyakhireva, RIAC Program Manager.
The seminar was held as part of an initiative to build an EU-Russia expert network aimed at strengthening long-term cooperation between Russia and the EU.
In 2017–2018 several roundtables were held on various aspects of Russia-EU relations in the framework of the project. The project is scheduled until autumn 2020. The next meeting of the network is scheduled for February 2019 in Moscow.
