On February 16, 2024, the Russian Council for International Affairs (RIAC) and Institute of Oriental Studies (IOS) of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) held an expert discussion “Iraq in the Context of the Regional Trends in the Middle East”. During the meeting Ruslan Mamedov, Scientific Advisor of the Evgeny Primakov Center for International Cooperation, Senior Researcher at the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies of the IOS RAS presented the monograph “Iraq at the Beginning of the 21st Century: on the Way to a New Statehood”.

During the meeting Ruslan Mamedov, Scientific Advisor of the Evgeny Primakov Center for International Cooperation, Senior Researcher at the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies of the IOS RAS presented the monograph “Iraq at the Beginning of the 21st Century: on the Way to a New Statehood”.
The welcome remarks were delivered by Andrey Kortunov, Academic Director at the RIAC, and Vasily Kuznetsov, Deputy Director for Science of the IOS RAS, RIAC Member. The speakers of the meeting were: Irina Zvyagelskaya, Head of Center for the Middle East Studies of the IMEMO RAS, RIAC Member; Grigory Lukyanov, Researcher at the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies of the IOS RAS.
During the event, experts discussed regional tendencies in the Middle East, which are most notable in Iraq, as well as the current socio-political situation in that country. Besides, one of the discussion topics was the evolution of Russian studies on Iraq.
The discussion was moderated by Ivan Bocharov, Program Coordinator at the RIAC.
