On November 13, 2019, Russian International Affairs Council, the Embassy of Finland to Russia, and the Delegation of the European Union to Russia held a joint seminar “EU–Russia Relations in the Context of Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU”.
The seminar focused on the priority areas of EU policy during Finland's presidency, the possibilities of interaction between Russia and the EU, climate change, and the development of the Arctic.
The speakers of the first session included Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Director General, Mikko Hautala, Ambassador of Finland to Russia, Markus Ederer, Ambassador of the European Union to the Russian Federation, and Nikolay Kobrinets, Director of the Department of European Cooperation of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The second session was addressed by Hiski Haukkala, Professor of the University of Tampere, Finland; Alexander Gusarov, Head of the Department at DEC MFA of Russia; Andrey Zagorsky, RIAC Member, Director of IMEMO RAS Department of Disarmament and Conflict Resolution; Tero Vauraste, Vice Chairman Arctic Economic Council; and Vladislav Belov, Deputy Director of RAS Institute of Europe. Ivan Timofeev, RIAC Director of Programs, moderated the session.
The meeting was attended by ambassadors of the EU countries in Russia, representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, RAS Institute of Europe, experts from MGIMO University and IMEMO RAS.
RIAC regularly holds seminars with the embassies of the countries presiding the Council of the EU. Since 2015, RIAC has held seminars with the Embassies of Latvia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Estonia, and Austria.
