Two conference days saw numerous discussion about possible venues of the SCO development among experts from China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Qatar etc. Many presentations focused on the need to establish systemic foundations of the SCO development, given its expanded membership and world order transformation. The experts stressed that the current ad hoc approach to economy, energy, sustainable development and transport cooperation has to give way to a more strategic vision. The Chinese speakers also drew the attention of the audience to the fact that mutual trust among the SCO members has decreased after the expansion and now it would take additional multilateral effort to restore it and turn the Organization into a real “common home”.
Julia Melnikova, RIAC Program Manager, spoke during the session “New Productive Forces and the SCO Sustainable Development”. Alexey Maslov, Director of the Institute of Asia and Africa Studies of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, RIAC Member, and Artem Isaev, Director of the Institute of Economic Studies, RAS Far Eastern Branch, represented Russia at the Forum as well.
