On June 28, 2019, an expert meeting was held at Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) to discuss the relations between Russia and the EU with the countries of Central Asia.
Ruslan Mamedov, RIAC Program Coordinator, and Peter Burian, EU Special Representative for Central Asia, opened the meeting. Ambassador Burian and Philippe van Amersfoort, Deputy Head of the Central Asia Division at the European External Relations Service (EEAS) presented the new EU strategy ”The EU and Central Asia: New Opportunities for a Stronger Partnership”, to Russian experts.

The parties discussed the positions of Russia and the EU on the major challenges of sustainable development in Central Asia, as well as integration processes in the region, issues of regional cooperation, security, economics, water management, and joint efforts.
Representatives of RAS Institute of Oriental Studies, MGIMO MFA RUssia, Moscow State University, Saratov State University, Tomsk State University, Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation took part in the meeting.
