On April 16, 2025 round table “Russia-Qatar Relations in the Context of the Regional and Global Trends” was held. Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) in cooperation with HSE University and Center for International Policy Research (CIPR) organized the meeting.

The first session was devoted to the mediation efforts of Russia and Qatar in the Middle East and beyond this region. Speakers in this session were: Majed Al Ansari, Advisor to Qatari Prime Minister, Official Spokesperson of Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, CIPR President; Andrey Kortunov, RIAC member; Nikolay Sukhov, Lead Researcher of the Center for the Middle East Studies of the Primakov Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO) of the RAS. The discussion was moderated by Leonid Issaev, Deputy Director of the Centre for Stability and Risk Analysis of the Faculty of Social Sciences at HSE University.
During the second session, the experts discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation of Russia and Qatar in the context of the regional and global trends. Reports were presented by Rashid Al-Mohanadi, Non-Resident Fellow at the Middle East Council on Global Affairs; Alexey Khlebnikov and Kirill Semenov, independent experts. The session was moderated by Ivan Bocharov, RIAC Program Manager.
The fourth session was dedicated to the prospects for the development of Russian-Qatari cooperation in the field of energy. Speakers in this session were: Vladimir Likhachev, Deputy Director of the Centre for Sustainable Infrastructure Development Research of the Institute of Economics and Utility Regulation at HSE University; Mohammed Al-Hashemi, Vice President for Strategic Relations and Director of Public & Government Affairs at the Qatar Leadership Centre; Margarita Kozeniasheva, Head of the Department of International Oil and Gas Business at the Gubkin Russian State Oil and Gas University; Gurgen Gukasyan, Leading Researcher at the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the RAS, Associate Professor at the Department of State and Municipal Management of RUDN University. Rashid Al-Mohanadi, Non-Resident Fellow at the Middle East Council on Global Affairs, moderated the session.
The conference was also attended by Bulent Aras, CIPR Research Director; Turki Al Malki, CIPR Managing Director; Saad Al-Derham, CIPR Research Assistant; Mir Ali Askerov, Lecturer of the Department of International Relations and Political Processes in Asia and Africa at HSE Campus in St. Petersburg; Anton Mardasov, independent expert.
