On January 30, 2018, the University of Pennsylvania made a presentation of pre-launch version of the global analytical centers rating «Global Go To Think Tank Index Report 2017». The full version will be published on May 1, 2018.
Russia ranks 8th (130 organizations — an increase of 8 over the previous year) among the countries with the largest number of think tanks. Andrey Kortunov, RIAC Director General, provided the necessary clarifications for Kommersant daily and explained the increase in the number of Russian centers in the rating by the growing popularity of the rating itself: «The place in the rating might become an additional argument in the struggle for the resources and a status in the expert community».

According to the pre-launch version of the rating, RIAC appears in 5 categories: Top Think Tanks in Central and Eastern Europe, Top Defense and National Security Think Tanks, Top Foreign Policy and International Affairs Think Tanks, and Best Independent Think Tank. Particular attention in 2018 will be given to RIAC and other think tanks included in the list based on the views expressed by the experts.
RIAC congratulates its partners, many of which significantly improved their positions in the rating: MGIMO University, IMEMO RAS, RAS Institute for U.S. and Canadian Studies, RAS Institute of Europe, RAS Institute for Oriental Studies, RAS Institute of Sociology, Council on Defense and Foreign Policy (CDFP), Carnegie Moscow Center and other.
