The opening speeches were made by Dr. Michael Schaefer, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Carsten Wieland, founder of AL-TAWILA, Political Affairs Officer in the Office of the Joint Special Representative for Syria at United Nations.
Daniel Gerlach, Candid Foundation executive director, moderated the discussion.
Nikolai Sukhov and Konstantin Truyevtsev, researchers at the RAS Institute of Oriental Studies, made reports. The following issues were touched upon in the course of discussion: resolution of Syrian and Libyan issues, the role of regional forces in the Middle East processes, and the possibility for Russia-Europe cooperation on this track.
Ruslan Mamedov, RIAC Program Assistant, and Inna Rudolf, project manager, MENA department at BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt, summed up the outcomes of the event.
The sides discussed the prospects and the areas for further cooperation.
