On September 22, 2014, RIAC Director General and Director of the Center for Energy and Security Studies Anton Khlopkov visited Iran's Embassy in Moscow to meet Ambassador Mehdi Sanai. The sides focused on joint Russian-Iranian expert meetings for building direct links between foreign policy specialists of the two countries. According to Ambassador Sanai, due to shortage of information on Russia, perception of Moscow's foreign policy in Iran is lopsided, since conclusions are often made on basis of Western sources. One of the ways to overcome the trend seems to lie in organization of joint workshops.

A right step in this direction was made by RIAC's working paper "Modern Russian-Iranian Relations: Challenges and Opportunities" that was presented to pundits of the Institute of Iran Eurasian Studies at the University of Tehran for their views on the suggested approaches to advancement of the bilateral relationship. Their review indicates that the existing differences in assessment of Russia-Iran relations may serve as a basis for constructive expert discussion on building an efficient top level dialogue.
