On October 23, 2018, in Moscow, Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) and Center for Strategic Research of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey (SAM) held the 3rd International Conference "Russia and Turkey: Strategic Directions of Multidimensional Partnership." The event recognized the work of the two organizations, that started in 2015. The conference traditionally raises great interest among experts and practitioners. The event gathered about 100 participants: representatives of State bodies, business and academic circles, civil society of Russia and Turkey. Reporters and journalists from 20 media attended the event.

Igor Ivanov, RIAC President, and Ufuk Ulutaş, SAM MFA Turkey Chairman, made opening speeches. Eleonora Mitrofanova, Head of the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Cultural Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo), Andrey Buravov, Deputy Director of the Fourth European Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, and Hüseyin Diriöz, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Russia, also took part in the opening of the event.
This year's conference focused on the approaches of Russia and Turkey to the formation of a regional security system in Europe and the Middle East, cooperation in economic and energy sectors at a new stage, and the development of Russian-Turkish cultural and humanitarian cooperation. These and a number of other issues were touched upon in the course of the presentations at three plenary sessions of the conference.
The conference included the presentation of Perceptions special edition, an academic journal by Center for Strategic Research (SAM) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Turkish Republic, dedicated to Russian-Turkish relations. The special edition of the Perceptions journal was prepared by Russian and Turkish experts in conjunction with RIAC and SAM MFA Turkey. In addition, a Russian version of the materials was published in the format of RIAC Report “Deepening of Russia-Turkey Relations”.
