Future for the secular forces in the states of the "Arab awakening" which was organized by the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Center of transformation of political systems studies affiliated with the School of world politics at Moscow State University (MSU).

Irina Zvyagekskaya, moderator of the panel discussion, Senior Research Fellow at the institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Doctor of Philosophy in History and Vasiliy Kuznetsov, director of the Center of transformation of political systems studies affiliated with the School of world politics at Moscow State University and Doctor of Philosophy in History addressed their opening remarks to the participants. Issues of religious and national identity in the Arab spring countries, confrontation between different groups as well as opportunities for the future political, economic and cultural development of the Middle East region were among the topics discussed.
RIAC materials - analytical report "Russia and the Greater Middle East" and a work-book "Russia and the "new elites" of the Arab spring countries" were presented to the participants of the panel discussion, stirring keen interest among them.
