On November 11, 2024 Russian Council for International Affairs (RIAC) in cooperation with Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) hold the X International Conference “Current Status and Prospects of Migration to Russia from Distant Countries”. The event was attended by leading experts on migration issues, as well as regional studies specialists.

The welcome remarks were delivered by Ivan Timofeev, RIAC Director General; Mikhail Margelov, member of the RIAC Board of Trustees and RIAC Vice President, Vice President of the Federal Development Group “Etalon”; Vladimir Malakhov, Director of the Research Center for Theoretical and Applied Political Science of the Institute of Social Sciences RANEPA.

The first session was devoted to the socio-economic problems of migration from far abroad countries to Russia, especially directions of migration flows and their impact on the Russian labor market. During the second session experts exchanged views on the perception of migrants from distant countries in Russian regions. They also discussed the main trends in the field of educational migration to Russia from countries in Africa, the Middle East, South Asia and other regions of the world.

Vladimir Mukomel, head of the Center for Research of International Relations of the Institute of Sociology of Federal Center of Theoretical and Applied Sociology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Irina Ivakhnyuk, Member of the Global Migration Policy Associates, moderated the discussion.

The conference was also attended by experts from the IMEMO RAS, Institute of Oriental Studies of the RAS, ICARP FEB of the RAS, Institute of Demography of NRU HSE, Irkutsk State University, Pacific State University, Skolkovo School of Management, Tomsk State University etc.
