... online . The last two calendar years have been marked by a significant increase in left-wing protest movements, both within the European Union and around the world. The most notable of these has been the rise of the Coalition of the Radical Left (or SYRIZA) to power in Greece. It is high time for us analyse the ideological base of new protest parties, how they fit in with – and even go beyond – traditional left-wing Marxism. Another aspect is how to reconcile the protest mentality with the alternative economic strategy proposed by such parties and how such a scenario plays out in the case of the SYRIZA coalition.
